ANTIQUE JAMES PARKES POCKET COMPASS
James Parkes & Son Pocket Compass
Mid 19th century wooden cased pocket compass by James Parkes & Son of Birmingham. It features the Parkes "eye" trade mark on the dial. The pictures speak for themselves. Excellent condition and functioning. I'm unsure of the type of wood but it is stunning, the shimmer and strong colours are clear in the photos.
The only wear is on the dial face around the edge where the needle has made contact, and a spot inside the case where the brake button touches the timber. Not bad for an item that's approaching it's 170 year in the world.
The dial measures 45mm in diameter, the case is 65mm in diameter and about 20mm wide closed. (stall6)
