RARE HMV "LUMIERE" PORTABLE GRAMOPHONE
This His Masters Voice model 460 "Lumiere" pleated diaphragm gramophone is one of the most extraordinary machines we've ever seen. It has a 14 inch pleated paper diaphragm instead of a horn.
The Lumiere diaphragm is vibrated directly by the stylus and behaves like a giant speaker cone. The machine also features an automatic break, turntable speedometer, and an oak veneer cabinet. It is in original condition.
This HMV 460 was built in England around 1925 by The Gramophone Company Ltd. They were very popular at the time and the audio quality was hard to match but are now very rare as the paper diaphragms are incredibly delicate and very few have survived intact.
42 x 55 x 27cm tall when closed.
